hey guys! this weekend WWC? is pleased to announce our first annual short gay play festival, GPS (Gay Play Series). the festival will go from june 25-28 and a wide variety of events are scheduled. the event kicks off with a rare staged reading of Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls on friday, june 25th at 8PM. (i didn’t design this poster to the right, but it sure is cool, isn’t it??)
then on saturday and sunday we will present the 5 one act plays that were selected from the call we put out a few months ago. there were about 22 entries and these were the five best of those submitted. these five short plays will be presented twice throughout the weekend. one of these performances will be saturday, june 26th at 8PM and the other will be at 3PM on sunday, june 27th. at the end of each of these days the audience will be asked to vote for their favorite play. the winner of the festival will perform on monday night at 8PM and also get a late night slot in the upcoming WWC? season.
monday night will kick off with the winning one act which will be followed by the Motown MisCast Cabaret. the cabaret is a fun night where the guys get to sing showtunes usually sung by females and the ladies get to take on the dude’s songs. it’s a concept that is popular in NYC, Boston, and other big cities and we’re thrilled to bring it to Detroit.
each day of the festival is $10 or you may purchase a weekend pass for $20. all tickets can be reserved online by clicking HERE or by phone at 248-545-5545. watch over the next couple of days as i ask each of the five playwrights some questions so we can get to know a little more about them and the play they have written.
hope to see everyone there!!!
